What is the G3 SmartDialer and how does it work?

The G3 SmartDialer is a free mobile application that you can download to your smartphone. It allows you to make low rate long distance calls directly from your contact list, address book, phone screen or email view without having to dial long access numbers or PINs.

With just a click, the application dials your long distance number and launches the G3 service, where your call will then be routed to the G3 Network and allow you to save on expensive long distance charges from your cellular provider.

How do I download the SmartDialer application?

There are two easy ways you can download the G3 SmartDialer:

How to download using the QR code:

  1. Launch any QRC reader.
  2. Hold your iPhone device up to the code and wait a few moments.
  3. Once taken to the G3 app product details page within Apple App Store, click to install.

*Some QR code reader applications are available for free download at the App Store. However, you may be charged a per download fee if you select a paid reader app.

What is a QR Code?

A QR Code (Quick Response Code) is a two-dimensional bar code specifically designed to be quickly and accurately read by low-resolution cameras on mobile devices. You can easily download the G3 SmartDialer to your device by doing the following:

  1. Launch any QRC reader.
  2. Hold your iPhone device up to the code and wait a few moments.
  3. Once taken to the G3 app product details page within Apple App Store, click to install.

How do I use it for the first time?

  1. Once installed, launch the G3 App.
  2. Enter your mobile number, e-mail, and PIN (if applicable). Click on Update Profile.
  3. Save your changes and you are ready.

Special instructions for iOS 6.0 users

When to Enter Your PIN

If you have a G3 SmartCard, you may enter the PIN found at the back of the card. This will let you use whatever minutes you have on the card instead of your regular G3 account (if you have one). Leave this portion blank if you do not have a G3 SmartCard.

Special instructions for iOS 6.0 users

For iOS6.0, Apple has implemented a mandatory security prompt whenever a new application initially attempts to access your contacts list. As a result, if you launch the G3 Mobile app and clicks on "Contacts" for the first time, you will be prompted as below:

Simply press "OK" (once) to allow the G3 Mobile app to access your contacts list. If you don't allow the G3 Mobile access, you will not be able to see any of your contacts when using our app.

If you selected Don't Allow but would like to enable this setting again, go to your iPhone's Settings, select "Privacy" and then select "Contacts."

How do I dial my calls?

From your iPhone:

  1. To start using the service, launch the G3 SmartDialer application.
  2. Select a contact from your contacts list, or enter the phone number you wish to call.

From your iPad or iPod Touch:

  1. To start using the service, launch the G3 SmartDialer application.
  2. Go to the Settings, and set Call Type to either "VoIP WiFi" or "VoIP Data."
  3. Go back to Settings, and click Done.
  4. Select a contact from your contacts list, or enter the phone number you wish to call.

*You must have WiFi or 3G connectivity on your iPad or iPod Touch to be able to use the G3 app.

Special instructions for iOS 6.0 users

Important Reminder

You must RE-LAUNCH the G3 SmartDialer every time you make a call. After your call is completed using the G3 SmartDialer, the application will automatically exit. To place another long distance call, always remember to re-launch or restart the G3 SmartDialer to avoid high long distance charges from your cell phone provider.

How do I make sure all my long distance are routed through the G3 SmartDialer?

To ensure that you are using the G3 service every time you call long distance, always remember to launch the G3 SmartDialer app first before dialing or selecting a number from your contact list.

You should also be able to hear our automated voice prompt announce your account balance after you dial your long distance number.

Can I use the G3 SmartDialer on my iPad or iPod Touch?

Absolutely! But remember that you must have WiFi or 3G connectivity on your iPad or iPod Touch to be able to use the G3 app.

From your iPad or iPod Touch:

  1. To start using the service, launch the G3 SmartDialer application.
  2. Go to the Settings, and set Call Type to either "VoIP WiFi" or "VoIP Data."
  3. Go back to Settings, and click Done.
  4. Select a contact from your contacts list, or enter the phone number you wish to call.

*You must have WiFi or 3G connectivity on your iPad or iPod Touch to be able to use the G3 app.

How often do I need to update my profile?

You will only need to update your profile when you first use the application and whenever you travel outside your location.

How should I set my call type?

There are three (3) types of call settings you can use when calling via the G3 SmartDialer:

  • Dial Through - uses a local access number
  • VoIP WiFi - uses WiFi connectivity
  • VoIP Data - uses 3G connectivity / data

Dial Through

This default setting is determined by the G3 service or plan you are subscribed in. The G3 app dials your outgoing call and routes it through the G3 network.

This option is only available for iPhones.


VoIP WiFi

Using VoIP WiFi lets you call without using your regular data plan. When choosing VoIP WiFi, ensure that your mobile is actually connected to a WiFi network, otherwise it will count towards you data plan.

This option is available for iPhones, iPads and Touch iPods (with WiFi connectivity).

To call using VoIP WiFi:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Select Call Type and choose VoIP WiFi.
  3. Go back to Settings and click Done.

VoIP Data

Using VoIP Data will count towards your regular data plan. You may want to disable 3G VoIP Data calls when traveling to avoid expensive data roaming charges.

This option is available for iPhones and iPads (with 3G/data plan).

To call using VoIP Data:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Select Call Type and choose VoIP Data.
  3. Go back to Settings and click Done.

When should I enter a PIN?

If you have a G3 SmartCard, you may enter the PIN found at the back of the card. This will let you use whatever minutes you have on the card instead of your regular G3 account (if you have one).

Leave this portion blank if you do not have a G3 SmartCard.

What is a Location ID?

By default, it is the first 7 digits of your mobile phone number including Country Code. The access number is based on your Location ID. If you change your Location ID and select 'Update Profile,' the access number will also change according to your new Location ID.

When you Travel

Change your Location ID whenever you travel outside your city or state to ensure that the access number(s) you will be using is local to your area.

For example, if you are traveling to Toronto, you can change your location ID to '1416567':

1416 - Country code + Toronto area code

567 - first three digits of your mobile number (or any 3-digit numbers will do)

Click on 'Update Profile' to edit your Location ID. After entering your new Location ID, click on 'Update Profile' again to retrieve your new local access numbers.
